Teaching & internships at Medical Pharmacology

Our teaching activities are primarily focussed on the Medical Faculty. We teach Pharmacology, Neuroscience and Endocrinology, from molecular biology to behavior. We try to emphasize the diverse ways in which organisms can adapt to their environment, and the crucial role of hormones in these processes.

We coordinate the course Hormones and the Nervous System, a 7 week course (10EC) in May and June. We cover all major endocrine and neuronal signaling systems in relation to physiology and disease. This course was elected Best Course in the Biomedical Science curriculum in 2009! The course is part of the regular Biomedical Science Bachelor's curriculum (2nd year), but also open to a limited number of other students, such as Biology and Biopharmaceutical Sciences. Info: o.meijer@lacdr.leidenuniv.nl.

We coordinate the course 'Animal Cognition' (2 weeks), which is part of the interfaculty minor Brain & Cognition. Info: m.oitzl@lacdr.leidenuniv.nl

At present we also coordinate the course Neuropharmacology for the Biopharmaceutical Science Minor 'Disease, Signaling and Drug Targets' (o.meijer@lacdr.leidenuniv.nl)

In addition we teach the principles of Pharmacology to second year medical students, in collaboration with our colleagues from the Center for Human Drug Research.

At the master's level, we coordinate a number courses: The FOS course Depression and other Stress-related Diseases (vreugden@lacdr.leidenuniv.nl) , the course Cognitive Neuroscience (m.oitzl@lacdr.leidenuniv.nl) and the course Stress Hormones and Pathophysiology of the Nervous System (n.datson@leidenuniv.nl).
